Fun and as challenging as you want it to be. A little rain would have helped with the dust

The 6 hour drive and the dust.

Good trails, good camping areas, facilities ok, shop is great, people were terrific, helpful and friendly.
Extras
No trash anywhere. Bathrooms were OK clean and usable, trash cans everywhere. Crowds were OK.

Good, clean

Definately designed for the dirk bikes, not many trails for the ATVs. The trails are mainly downhill, there ae very few trails that allow you to go up the hills.

Located in the foothills, great views. Trail #15 was awsome! I wish they had about 5 more like it for the ATVs.

Trails were great , the challenges met on the trails matched the rating system pretty well.
Did not use the track.
Least Favorite
It was muddy in the morning , but HP is not responsible for the weather. As the day wore on , wind and riders dried the trails up.
Most Favorite
Despite the fact that there were a lot of riders there , traffic on the trails was good , even on the perimeter roads. Enough room to pass safely (PR) and bridges were in good shape.

Bathrooms were clean. Parking area was also.

One way trails, motocross track, everything. Not to many places like this exist. I am very grateful to all of the people who puts all of the hard work and time in this facility. Great staff (including the indoor pets). Especially love the Cheeseburgers.

The bathrooms are very clean and they even had heaters in them. The parking lot was great also. Lots of trashcans throughout.

MXGP TrackPosted 11/28/2009

Track/Trail Feedback
The new MXGP track gets better every time that we go! The track was prepped great today. Very wide track that allows for passing on the whole track. This track has high speed areas, some tight turns, lots of elevation changes, off camber uphill and downhill turns, lots of tabletops, a few small but safe doubles, and nice viewing areas.
Least Favorite
The only thing that would make this track any better would be a watering system but that would cost mega bucks.
Most Favorite
Friendly staff, great burgers and dogs, reasonable entry fee

trails were a little muddy in places due to rain fall days before. Track was greasy early in the day but was perfect in early afternoon. The track is great, lots of speed and quite safe as far as tracks go, jumps are big enough but safe if y
Least Favorite
The only bad thing I could find was the fact that you can't see the track from the parking area. Maybe in the future there will be an area for spectators to watch from. The track is great with good speed and jumps are big enough but safe if you come up short unlike a normal supercross design.

Trails are awesome. A complete variance in skill set for each trail with great levels of difficulty. They were also in great condition and consistent with diamond rating. I caught a 3 that was a blast then a 4 that kicked my butt-Amazng what a Red Bull will do to you..

The staff including the "girls at the counter" are awesome. They are all real friendly and ready to help with anything you need. Riders are all cool as well-I stopped several times and everyone checked in. Also, its not a bad haul from ATL once you hit 20.
Extras
Cabins are pretty cool and bath amenities are real close. Camping will be awesome when the weather breaks..

Track/Trail Feedback
The MX track is ok, but nothing to write home about. The trails on the other hand are awesome! I'm still a beginner on the trails, so I mainly rode the 2 and 3 diamond ones. The trails were in excellent condition, with enough variation in difficulty and terrain for any rider.
Least Favorite
My only real complaints about Highland Park are the MX track, which I understand they are building a new one (can't wait to ride it), and the distance from my house (which is not really relevent).
Most Favorite
Love the 1-way trails, because you don't have to worry about oncoming traffic, especially important for the younger riders. I also like the perimeter road setup, because it makes it easy to meet-up with people. Our party often times split up and road different trails (2,3,4 diamond).
Extras
The facilities are great. Real bathrooms and showers, picnic tables, and plenty of trash cans.

Nasty Manager - Great Trails And Fine FacilitiesPosted 05/22/2009

Track/Trail Feedback
The day started out more than a bit wet and slick. Fortunately, the trails became much better as the day went on. We had a blast on them.
Least Favorite
Watch out for the manager, he can be one nasty character. I could tell you a story about treatment of one customer (not me) but it seems space does not permit here. Suffice it to say, you don't want to aggravate him; although that can be challenge since is is not at all clear as to what aggravates him.

As for the other staff, they always have and still do seem to be nice folks. In the past we’ve also met the owner, who also seems to be a nice guy. So how they ended up with this current manager is a mystery.
Most Favorite
Our rider group (5 of us today) found the trails challenging and fun as usual - with variations in speed and difficulty. And the MXGPX track was a pleasure. However, HP cannot compare to Duramhamtown Plantation in the pure MX track category; although it looks like HP might be in the process of substantially upgrading in the MX category right now. However, on the trail side, HP is heads above DP. While there are public trail areas like Houston Valley that have great trails, HP has very good trails combined with good facilities and the greater safety of a one-way trail system.
Extras
The facilities, now including toilet & showers were fine. I sure appreciated being able to shower up before heading home.

The track was slick after a weekend of rain, but not bad. Most of it was great. It is always good a couple days after a rain.
Least Favorite
There is nothing bad about this place at all. You need to check it out.
Most Favorite
For those who have not been here before, I have been coming every week now since discovering 2 months ago. Conditions have always been terrific. A rainy spring in GA makes this park even better. The outer perimeter loop is about 5 miles long, and the inner loop is about 3. All the other trails branch off of these. Trails are one way and really nice. They have nice jumps and elevation changes. I can ride the 5 diamonds but find that some of the 2 and 3 are actually more fun. I actually like to rip around the outer perimeter more than anything. It is fast and a fun ride. The MXGP track is fun with a lot of smaller jumps. Nothing intimidating at all, even the few doubles are very small and easy. Beginners will even like them. It is a little bit rocky and hard pack, but I got a sneak peak at the new MX track that will be open soon, and let me tell you...that thing is awesome. Wide, long, fast and fun. Reminds me of something in Europe. It's gonna be great. I hope it opens soon. Come ride this place. You will be so happy you came here. If you have a little rising star, there is a great Pee Wee track, and mind you...it is a track and it is nice and long (relatively speaking). You can see every portion of it from any spot so no worries about the little one going astray.
Extras
There are bathrooms and showers. Not porta-potties. A real building. There are also a handful of cabins to rent. Really cool. After a days ride, get the grill going, open the cooler and relax and spend the night thinking about how you are going to attack the trails in the morning. There is a new huge parking area, but I prefer parking near the cabins where there are picnic tables and trees. It's like being in a camp ground. The trash barrels are always empty and the place is very clean. Just go already. If you are a KTM owner you are in luck because of the KTM shop right on site. If you are not a KTM rider, buy your pre-mix, filter oil, chain lube and other stuff here because I found the prices to be better than my local Honda/Suzuki dealer, and it helps keep the park financed. It has never been crowded when I go. I normally ride during the week but have been on Saturday's, which is the busiest day there (but still the trails are by no means even close to crowded). Go and have fun. If you have a camper, bring it and stay a couple of days.

All the trails are great. Stick to your skill level - when you are ready - then challenge your shelf and go to the next level. Trails are rated by diamonds. 1 is the easiest 5 is the most difficult. The MX track is another nice challenge..

It was a dry day and would have been dusty if I could have kept up with my buddy. LOL! I loved the place. I have been going to "The Ridge" which is nice, BUT Highland is really nice. The trails seem more organized and laid out better to me. Trails are obviously well maintained as well as the grounds.

My bars need to be cut. If you plan to ride the 4 diamonds you better have narrow bars and bark busters......In my case wearing pads were a plus that day.

I had A friend from Knoxville, Tennessee to come down and ride with me for my 49th birthday. We rented one of the cabins for two days and it was great to have a nice bed to lay down in at night. The showers were another great addition. This was the first time either one of us had been to Highland Park. We had a awesome time. We started riding anound 2:00 on Friday and quit around 2:00 on Sunday. We put 135 miles on the bikes. We rode on everything from the primiter road to 3D trails. We didn't try any 4 or 5D trails. That will be for the next trip. I had a blast on the MXGP track. Great for remembering old times ( no triples or dangerous stuff). We had a great time and hope to come back soon.

After traveling from South Florida and setting up a 36' Camper and 31' Toyhauler management requested we relocate. Mangement said we were blocking the roadway, but our photos prove otherwise. We were very carfull not to block any roadways. The problem was there was not another spot even close to being level enough to relocate to. The only other level spot was already taken by a class A being used by employees. Management was very rude about the issue and didn't care to take care of us proper. We paid our overnight camping fee and left.

If you have a big rig Camper / Toyhauler, don't go. They do not have enough level area to set up the big rigs.

When we first arrived, it seemed like the place was packed. A dozen or so in line at the check-in and the parking area seemed pretty full also. A group of on-line riding junkies from the Usenet newsgroup rec.motorcycles.dirt had been planning a trip to a Southeast destination for several months and a chance meeting in the ATL for one of the members delivering a grandson back to his folks set the date. HPR was chosen as our destination of choice and there was something for everyone. Riders ranged from newbie youngsters to seasoned HS, Endoro and DS veterans. Rain prior in the week left behind a few puddles and slick spots, but overall traction was great and dust was minimal. Once we left the parking area, we hardly saw another soul all day. Trails are well-marked and ONE-WAY (WooHoo). What few riders we did encounter (2 and 4-wheel) were courteous and offered help the time or 2 we had a rider down. The rating system seemed right on target. Those of us riding with the little ones didn't venture on anything above a 2D but still saw some good challenging terrain that put the little guys to the test. The other group rode pretty much everything and they were suitably impressed with the 4D & 5D trails. (This coming from a group of guys that have ridden at >10K ft in the Sawtooth Mtn's in Idaho and other such spots.
Least Favorite
Would've like to see the PeeWee area a little closer to the parking area. The non-riding parents would have liked to be able to drive their car down to the track (maybe you can, we didn't ask) to watch the guys tear it up. Will be glad when showers are available. Wish it was closer than 2.5 hours from the house :-(
Most Favorite
There are enough trails to take a significant number of riders without feeling crowded. Very kid-friendly and like the idea of the Ranger program.
Extras
Cleanest porta-thrones I've seen anywhere. Overall not a lot of trash anywhere on the premises.....let's keep it that way!

lack of a decent MX track or nice tables to jump, no washrooms, lack of overall variety - singletrack for days and they are STRICT about the one-ways (which is good)
Most Favorite
The variety of trails, the on-site KTM dealership -- wow! It may be me but those ratings are every bit the diificulty they say they are...I didn't attempt any 5 diamond trails after the 4 diamond gave me everything I wanted from it--saw KTM Bob & wife out there ripping around as well.
Extras
Bathrooms are portajohns, it would be nice to have an area to wash up, parking was nice, some shaded, sme pinic tables. I would rate this place 3rd of the biggre three: 1. Durhamtown (even though the staff isn't very friendly)2. Broad River (just a journey from the ATL but best staff and best fun, notenough trail variety like DP or track variety but what is there is great and #3 Highland. Close.

This place has it. Tight single track. you can make a good loop out of the whole place.
Like enter on 6, then 14 then 13 then 10 or 11 then back to 2 then do the whole outer loop to 15. then back to parking for bed.

Cool place first time being here. rode it all in one day. coming back next year.
What up with the small cabins?
I wonder if we can rent them for the weekend.

Trails & roads are well trimmed and marked, very clear and laid out. Stretch your legs on the outer loop, or work a technical section in first gear.

Oddly enough, all the one-way roads- it makes it difficult if you're looking for a trail, and you see it as you shoot past it at 40mph on loose traction surfaces.
Perhaps some "Trail #1:Right 200 yards" markers would help??

The absolute size of the place.
The excellent support by the staff.
The 10 minutes of explanation of the map, riding area, and trail suggestions.
Extras
I didn't see any trash or anything out of place the entire day. I did enjoy the store with great selection, and was surprised by the low prices on gear!!

All the atv trails were not very much of a challange for the more experienced riders. For the moment it is geared more for the 2 wheelers and they thought they owned the place to boot. On more than once i had bad thoughts of what my 500 polaris could to to one of those 2 wheelers. The owners promised that harder trails are in the development stages and were coming very soon. I guess we will wait and see. Also please update your website and let me know when the trails are finished. for now highland is not worth the money for atv riders.

Been there 5 or 6 times now and had dust for the first time on these last 2 visits! One or two days after a big rain the middle and perimeter roads can be SLICK, but the trails remain in surprisingly good shape, nice and loamy. The tough trails are #4, #7, #10, portions of #12, and #13(from what I hear, haven't been on #13). Those have steep up and downs and are mostly off-camber. You have to be on your toes or you'll be on your butt in a hurry. The downhills, in my opinion, are hairier than the uphills. The easier trails are #1, #2, #3, #5, #6, #11, and #15, all ATV-wide, off-camber, up and down. #15 is probably the hardest of the ATV-wide trails but it's also the most fun. It's a rollercoaster, has only been open about a week and will only get better when it smooths out a little.

Just for sanity's sake I wish there was more flat stuff besides the middle & perimeter roads. You need some time to recover. Also, when you exit some of the trails you have to go all the way around the middle or perimeter roads to enter a different trail.

The staff is friendly and actually heads out onto the trails to check for trouble. It's good to know that bike maintenance is available on site if needed, too. They'll match some of the lowest prices I've seen on tires.
Extras
The porta-poopers were clean and amazingly didn't burn my eyes when I went it.

About 45 miles of riding now, with trail ratings from 1 to 5 diamonds, Novice to Super Expert. Those who have been down the 4 and 5 diamond trails know we are not kidding about the difficulty level, but we also have many miles of moderate to easy trails to ride.

Cabins and bathroom/shower facility not yet built, but they are coming! Porta Potties suffice in the meantime.

If you like interesting and challenging terrain, we have it. If you like scenic views, we have it. You can cruise around the perimeter road, or if you are up to a good physical workout and you are a well experienced rider, you can spend some time on trails 10 and 13 - five diamond rated, with huge elevation changes.
Extras
Nice shaded parking area, clean park-like setting in mountain forest, large supply of on-hand parts and accessories as well as a complete shop to handle all your service needs

Highlands is currently about 35 miles of 1 way trails. The only 2 way is the main trail into the perimeter loop and a short section at the end of trail #6. The lower perimeter to the middle ridge road is all wide ATV type trails and is suitable for anyone including kids on smaller bikes. Over the course of this smaller loop, there are 2 bridges, and a few jumps here and there. The other wide open trail is the Spur rd to the Upper Perimeter Road. It was a very fun trail to ride as it takes you to the top of a ridge and the scenery is awesome.

When you decide to leave the wider trails to try out some of the tighter trails. Trail #5 & #6 are still both rated a 1D and would be the first two trails to attempt if you are a newer rider or have younger kids. Trail #5 is a fun trail and should be one of the first a new rider attempts after venturing off the main loops. Trail #6 starts off pretty easy going through the woods down in a valley with a few bridge crossings over a small creek. It does have some moderate hill climbs towards the end, but isn't too bad.

The next level of trails goes up to a 2D rating, and starts throwing in some steeper hill climbs and off camber spots to add some excitement. Trail #2 makes a small loop and comes back out almost where you started on the West Perimeter Rd. It’s more in the open and higher up, so it should be drier if it’s a wet day. It has some decent hills and a few off camber spots. Trail #3 is a short steep downhill section that breaks off of trail #2 and connects you to Trail #5.

Trail #1 you will find on your way back to camp. It's hidden off to the side of West Perimeter road and basically follows the road back to camp. It's a pretty easily trail except for 2 technical down hill to uphill sections. The 2nd combo could give newer riders some problems. It dumps you out on the West Perimeter right at the entrance to Trail #5.

Trail #12 is very secluded and can be found on the upper Perimeter Rd. (It's and old Still Loop). It is labeled 2D for motorcycles and 3D for ATV’s, but some sections of this trail have extremely steep hill climbs and lots of off camber sections that to me would almost would push it to the 3D mark for MC also. If it's wet, this trail definitely needs your attention.

Trail #7 is an awesome motorcycle trail that branches off of trail #6, but involves a technical hill climb right from the start.

If you get on any of the trails above 2D, you definitely need your wits about hill climbing, tight technical sections, and off camber sections.

It gets quite slick after a rain and add 2 diamonds to any trail, especially the tight woods trails.
Most Favorite
The scenery is awesome, especially high up on the ridge.

They have all the trails well marked with arrows, ribbons and other signs telling you which way to go or not go. All the difficulties of the trail are marked at their entrance. They also have caution signs when you are approaching a trail intersection.
Extras
The staff was very friendly and helpful. At this point, they are just starting out so there is no electricity or running water, but I'm sure those ammenities will be coming.
