Can someone help me identify a bike? I found an advertisement for an early 90's model ktm 500 2-stroke. The ad doesn't give much information and the lady selling the bike doesn't seem to know much. The picture of the bike shows the exhaust coming out of the right side of the bike. However, everything that I look up says that ktm made a 500 mx from 89-91 with the pictures showing the exhaust exiting on the left side of the bike. The plastics also look a little different.

Did ktm make the 500mx longer than the 89-91 time period, and did the exhaust exit on the right? Is this possibly another model that I have overlooked? Or is the lady just mistaken about the size of this bike?

Let me know if you don't have a KTMtalk.com account and you can use mine to post through.

That is not a 1991 500MX. Looks like a 1996 360.

It could be a 96 550 mxc as well...lookin at the large tank and what appears to be an 18 inch rear wheel..definitely not a 91 500..

Thanks guys. I posted on KTMTalk also and the consensus is that it is not a 500. If original plastic then it is a 96/97 and if the tank is original then it is a MXC, EXC. Most people are saying it is a 360. Still might be a fun project, I will go take a look this week.

Assuming it is a 360, are these bikes any fun around here or should I just try to resell it somewhere with a desert?

The KTM 360 is a great motor - loads of torque, but still revs out.

I realize after working with the general public this is a tough question, but can the lady get the ID (vin) off the frame? It might tell you a lot.

Some people like 125s more than anything, others hate them. I noticed that people who ride poorly hate 2 strokes, especialy 125s and thoes who ride good like them.
