Hey Slo Mo, I don't know what you are planning but there are some cajuns coming and they plan on cooking as well. This could be our first cook off at the RBGP. They're supposed to be here late Friday so if they get your spot, well come to think of it, for a small donation I'll try and put them close to your spot..............

This whole entire property is hardpack with a layer of topsoil then grass, in some places it's it's deeper in topsoil and some hills are just plain hardpack or they would just wash away. If it ever gets hardpack bad it's because we are in a drought, but I would never call this place a mess. Motocross is what everyone gets today, muddy, dry, perfect, hot, cold, rain, wind, nasty and just plain racing. It's the same challenge for me to put on the best race possible with what I'm dealt with, the same goes for the riders. The only difference is I have to make plans 5-6 months ahead of time to do this race while you get to watch the weather channel and decide if you want to invest time and money to race motocross. There is a lot of work and investment in these race dates, it's a huge gamble for me. If it wasn't for real motocrossers and harescramblers just loading up and bringing it on, I would never put myself through this. This event is 10 years old. Right now it's good moisture in the ground and can take more if it rains, this place berms up nicely and the grass layout that's now in place will not be grass long. Practice and the 45 minute moto will take care of that. The other day we found some of my race photos from the 70s, in there were photos of national, trans am, and excellent local tracks. That's the tracks that are in my memory, this place is as good as any track in those photos and the layout changes here annually. MESS, I don't think so. Good luck on the Hodaka, come race

I think John does a pretty dang good job with the track. It is always a blast and generally ruts up nicely with some great traction, particularly in the first motos. There is more loyalty at this race than any other I have seen. Folks wouldn't keep coming back if it wasn't a top flight event and fun track.

Runnin Brand is always a blast even when the weather does not cooperate. Its way more than just another race for most people who attend...more like an old school motocross gathering that includes vintage bikes and a great motocross par-teyyy

This is true for my dad and me. He has only ridden a DB a hand full of times and he goes and races the RB any chance he gets... It is pretty much the only time he gets on a dirt bike. I thought he was going to get a trophy in the last race but he ended up with a DNF do to bike problems. He had a crappy mechanic that failed to prep his bike before the race. (Me) He made an attempt when many people did not even try. I thought that was awesome and the memories from that event and other RB events will be in the memory bank for life.
Thanks again John for doing what you guys do, your hard work is greatly appreciated!!!

Remember when the tracks and the ambulance had salt tablets available for riders in need. I guess Glucosamine is the next thing in need, at our age that would be more useful than a trophy

HEY -DOES ANYONE KNOW ,IF JOHN HAS GONE BACK TO THE OLD GRASS TRACK LAY-OUT, OR IS HE RUNNIN THAT SAME OL HARDPACKED MESS???
Mr DirtSquirt( or Hodaka or whatever it is), I dont know what track YOU rode when you came to RB whenever it was you showed up but Ive seen the track in all kinds of seasons and weather conditions, its been dry, hard and dusty in the summer drought and wet, deep and muddy in the rainy times, but the layout had nothing to do with the effects of the weather. In fact I helped lay this thing out the first few times we did it and its always been mostly on grass that only gets used at the most four times a year. The sections get changed around every time as well to keep wear and tear to a minimum.Granted Ive seen that back downhill section behind the staging area and start get pretty dusty by the end of the day before but John and crew do a great job with providing a racing surface thats the best it can be regardless of what mother nature throws at em and dealing with varying track conditions is just one of the challenges of racing motocross..something to consider if your going to continue to pursue it as a recreational activity. P.S. Typing in all caps is the internet equivalent of shouting and is considered rude. BUT YOU PROBABLY KNEW THAT.
Hope to see you there..

Hey Milt I thought about what you said about the old thing a bit and came up with some advice, ask Tom Barr (age 80). Heck, no kidding, he was the first this year to call and get the race dates Before the last race it was a little muddy, actually not bad and then the rain started and well it got pretty bad. But I'll never forget meeting Tom that Sat. night before the race and you'll have to picture standing in front of an 80 yr. old man that is legend. He ask about how things were going and how the track was, I told him I was a little concerned about one section, his reply " I put on new tires, no worries"
My first time to RB was fall of '07 and I've been at least once a year since. The RB track is what MX SHOULD be. Sure the weather can impact things, but this aint ice skating, its MX so I have little sympathy for people who whine about track conditions, either man up or load up. Maybe John should get a Zamboni to prep the track and smooth it out?
PS: Benny IS old, but he still hauls the mail and can beat 90% of the kids out there.
