The HareScramble course at DP is without a doubt awesome. I know that Mike has told everyone that there will be no pre race rides but I was able to convince him that I was in sever need of a soil sample test, so he let me take my samples.
The course is 16 miles long. It is made up of dirt roads, green wide trails and brand spanking new twisty turnie single track. This race course has everything. Slick pine straw on fresh new trail, open areas ( maybe 4 gear ), ups and downs, a few small hill climbs, puddles, creek crossing, log crossings, rocks and a few tricky things that just happen to be on the ground naturally. I am trying to think if I missed anything. Nope I got it all.
Predictions: The first riders off the line will be the A and B classes. Since some of this trail is virgin, I predict some riders will lose their bearing and get off the course and since this is fresh trail the pine straw is thick and VERY SLIPPERY and very slippery means Falls. By the time the C riders ( this should be the biggest group ) have their way at things then the trail should be etched in pretty good for the rest of the riders.
So does that mean that the ladies class just might pass or catch up to the A class. Well, anything is possible. Go Gals!!! Here’s your chance to shine big time.
Weather looks like the rain will hold off until Monday ( hopefully ) and conditions are dry.
Like I said I rode the course and 2 laps of 16 miles each will separate the centipedes from the butterflies.
Are you ready? Then Lets Rumble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This sounds awesome. I wish I wasn't injured at the moment. Saw the doc today, and he prescribed 6 more weeks of doing nothing in order for my fracture to heal completely. The good news is that the bones are fusing which I'd say is a step in the right direction.
I hope to make the later rounds of this series. Anxious to ride/race.

What do you think of the gas situation? Could a CRF450 w/ stock 1.9 gal tank make it? Or plan on a gas stop? Or should I just use the 3 gal tank and deal with the weight?
Help a brother out, it's my first time on a HS course in 25+yrs.
we were playing hide and seek with the deer out there
this course will have alot of deer on it
That sounds like fun.
Mike, I'd actually like to talk to you about that sometime. Have you had problems seeing more mature bucks since opening up DP for motorcycles? I hunt almost as much as I ride, but I've gotten hooked on Elk hunting and deer hunting just doesn't have the same appeal anymore. So, I ride more than I hunt these days.
In any case, we're about to get a piece of property for both hunting and riding and was wondering what the effect of riding is on seeing mature bucks (140+ class). I'm sure it can't be good.

Your stock gas tank should be plenty to do well over 32 miles if you do two laps and I wouldn't even worry if you had to go three. I believe it would do close to 60 miles on a full tank.

Hopefully I can make the next one for my first ever. Not this weekend though, I just picked up a bike today after not having one since August. Need to get used to it before I try racing.
USMC T,
I have a 250F and can get around 35-40 miles out of a stock tank (1.8) Go for the two laps and if you have to do a third lap you might think about a pitstop before you start the third lap. It would su// to push a bike out of the woods. Or put the big tank on and not worry about pits, Just RIDE !

Well, the race almost turned out to be a disaster this morning. I got there about 35min prior to start time, grabbed my packet, slapped on my helment sticker and wristband, threw on my riding gear, filled my stock tank right to the rim and ripped down to the start line. I got there (squeezed into a small hole, thanks guys!) and listened to the brief.
About 10 min later, my gate was ripping into the start and through the woods. Needless to say, I had a blast. First lap I spent trying to remember how to ride a harescramble (vice mx) and blew through a couple of turns and one rope quickly ripped me off my bike. I finally slowed down and got into a nice rythm. DP put on a great and well laidout course, that held up very well in my opinion. Spent the second lap picking up my pace and actually being a part of the race. I legitimately passed a couple of guys and passed a lot of guys that had thrown themselves off their bike or course. So I come up to the scorer's gate after the second lap and I am ready to fall off my bike and just celebrate finishing.
At that point, the "evil" race officials (just kidding guys) tell me that I am doing well enough to ride a third lap. NOT IN THE PLAN!!! So, I rip off into the woods for my third lap. Just as I make the third turn, I remember that I have the stock tank. Oh well, I think maybe someone will tow me in if I run out? Anyway, for the next out of control and exhausted lap, I have a great battle with a sweet KTM 450XC and a couple of Yamaha's.
Bottom line is that I had a great time, didn't run out of gas ( there was lot's left after 3 laps) and will definitely continue this series for the rest of the year. Thank's to DP for a great race and to all the great rider's that I met out there today. It was a blast!!! See ya'll April 15th!!! Make that April 22nd now!!

I want to choke someone out at DP. I called there this past wedsday to make sure the race was still on for saturday. I was told by a guy on the phone in the Pro Shop that the Quads would race on Saturday and the Bikes on Sunday. To what ever bonehead answered the phone, thanks for ruining my weekend.
